Heroes on the Hudson with Wounded Warrior Project

August 2, 2019

In conjunction with the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System, Wounded Warrior Project hosted an adaptive sports clinic for veterans which included sailing on the Hudson River Community Sailing’s fleet of J-24s, kayaking, fencing, and yoga hosted by the Veterans Yoga Project.  The full day event was designed so participants would have the opportunity to form strong bonds and relationships with fellow Veterans in an atmosphere that promoted both physical and mental wellness.

Hudson River Community Sailing founded Soldiers Under Sail, an adaptive sailing program designed specifically for military veterans, making sailing accessible to veterans in the New York metropolitan area.  Read more about their program here:  https://hudsonsailing.org/veterans-programs/.

The Fencers Club Veterans on Guard program supported by the Independence Fund provides the highest level of training and competition in fencing to engage disabled and able-bodied Veterans to pursue excellence in fencing, professional development and community service. The program is free and and you can find more information about it here: http://fencersclub.org/programs/veterans-on-guard-military-fencing-program/
