Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum: Contributions and Experiences of LGBTQ Service Members & Military Children

In honor of Pride Month, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum hosted a special event showcasing the contributions and experiences of LGBTQ service members and military family members, particularly in the face of discrimination. Our Strategic Communications & Engagement Associate, James Fitzgerald, joined a panel of LGBTQ veterans and military children in the Intrepid Museum’s Lutnick Theater for this important discussion.

Veterans and family members shared stories of resilience, struggle and activism from the past and present. James spoke about the evolution of the military’s policies and practices affecting LGBTQ service members as well as the new challenges service members and military children face today. Other panelists included: Tanya Asapansa-Johnson Walker, Jay Cook, and Derick Waller as moderator.

The mission of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.
